A Willing Price

A Willing Price

A Poem by therisa

Have I

Ever mentioned

How much

I dislike waiting?

As I sit

On a Sunday afternoon

In an Emergency Room's

Sparse waiting area.

Where

Every thought

In my mind

Screams at me

To flee.

But

The health

Of a friend comes

First.

Who

Needs medical attention

For her painfully swollen

And blistered legs

Being a diabetic.

Otherwise

Would never have

Sought out help

Given her dislike

Of hospitals.

Preferring to wait

Until an appointment

Was booked

With her own doctor.

Except

I offered my time

And companionship.

During

The long and boring

Wait.

Realizing

There are somethings

Which we should not

Or cannot place

A price tag

Upon.

When

A friend's health

Is risk.
