Turning A Blind Eye

Turning A Blind Eye

A Poem by therisa
"

Inspired by a homeless disabled person, sleeping in the front foyer of a bank.

"

You laugh

At my vision

Problems.

But

I ask you

Who is

The blind one

Here?

As you

Walk past those

Who need help

Without any qualms.

Believing

Rightly or wrongly

The government will

Take care of things.

But we live

In an era

Of downsizing

And downloading

From one level

To another.

Where

These services

Are forced delivered

At a lower cost

To the public purse.

Never mind

The quality of care

Has suffered

Too.

As

Politicians deliver

Upon their pledges

Of lower taxes.

Caring not

The harm inflicted

Upon society's most

Vulnerable members.

Knowing

They do not vote

Come election day.

To

The protesters

They claim:

"We cannot afford

These luxuries

During tough economic

Times."

Thus

Impoverish society

As a whole

With their "fiscal responsibility"

And right-wing belief.

As

They tear up

The social contract

Our grandfathers

Not so long

Great poem ! I loved -
"Who is
The blind one
Here ?"
We have become so adept at not-seeing those around us, especially those that may challenge us on an emotional level.

The sad part is, people are getting better, at this skill.
