Just Excuses

Just Excuses

A Poem by therisa

If

We live

In a post-modern society

Where gender equity

Is suppose to be

A fact.

Why

Do I

Still face hostility

Regarding my own

Gender identity

As a woman?

Where

Some people view

Others like myself

As pariahs for

Being gender traitor

Never to be fully trusted

In our correct gender.

Corrupter

Of society's mores

In providing

A path for damnation

For innocent children.

When

In reality

All we seek is

Inner peace

Between our souls

And our bodies.

Sigh.

Am

So tired

Of being told

I am transitioning

For sex and power.

Still

Scratching my head

Over that claim.

How

Do I gain sex

Or power over them

When they reviled

Me?

Can

Only shake

My head.

When

Survival demands

Things from us

Which otherwise is

Repulsive.

I think poetry would be an excellent format for your journal of experiences in your life. People undergoing a lot of different upheavals---cancer, loss of childrem, loss of marriage, abuse of many different kinds-- use poetry to put their pain outside their hearts and look at it and perhaps understand themselves better and allow others to understand better at the same time.
