Strike Three

Strike Three

A Poem by therisa

Why

Mom

Why?

Do

Your eyes

Light up with fear

When around me?

As if

I have become

A horrible monster

With my declaration

Of being female.

Do

You realize

Your blatant refusal

To call me

Therisa.

Hurts

More than

Your rejection

In July 2006.

Regressing

Backwards

Into ignorance

And denial.

For

The candle

Which I held for you

Lays sputtered

On my windowsill

Before going

Dark.

Carrying

Away my hopes

For any relationship

Between us.
