Migraine

Migraine

A Poem by therisa

A
Simple smile
Graces my face
Welcoming the day
With open arms.

Gone
The pained look
Etched into my face
For the past week.

As
I sought
The allusive shelter
Of darkness and silence
In my bedroom.

Where
The smallest sound
Is magnified
A thousand times
Shooting out
Waves of pain.

As
I became a prisoner
Within my own body
With no offer
Of mercy.

Yet
As soon as
The first hint
Of pain occurs
I find myself
Paroled.

Able
To walk about
And enjoy
Life's mysteries.

Even if
Only for
A day.
