I.D., Please

I.D., Please

A Poem by therisa
"

How a small event at a local hospital, helped to put my life, into perspective for me.

"

See
The double take
As you call
My name.

Looking
For a man
When a woman is
Seated before
You.

One
Of many changes
Which my body
Has experienced.

Yet
Somehow
Mentally
A little boy
Remain behind.

Struggling
To stay afloat
In a sea
Of estrogen.

As
Wants
And needs
Collide.

Of
Finding myself
And becoming
Comfortable
Within my skin.

How
Others react
And respond
To me.

Knowing
Whom I am
But still unprepared
For everything.

Only now
Am I accepting this
With a smile
Instead of a frown.
