Free To Be Me

Free To Be Me

A Poem by therisa

All
My life
Society has dictated
Who I am
As a person.

Passively
Choosing my fights
Which I fought.

Often
Leaving the battleground
With cuts bruises
And tears.

Please
Do not mistake
My stubbornness
For bravery.

As
I hid
My true self
From everyone.

No more
As I ran to freedom
In moving to
A new city
And life.

Openly
Living my life
As a woman
Thus accepted
As one.
