Hidden Reality

Hidden Reality

A Poem by therisa
"

Bittersweet truth

"

Please
Bear with me
As I try to find
The right words.

In
Describing
My community's
Struggles.

Through
The subtle usage
Of discrimination
By various parts
Of society.

Before
You remind me
About Ontario's
Charter of Human Rights
Now covers us.

Just
Recently approved
In June, 2012.

Pardon me
If I am not cheering
Vigorously
For this positive
News.

Having
Personally experience
First hand
Transphobic reactions
With the police
And doctors.

In
Treating me
As a second class
Person.

Whom
Is not to
Be trusted
And to be viewed
Suspiciously.

Yet
Should I complain
Am told
That I am being
Oversensitive
On this matter.

As if
My transitioning
Is an affront
To society.
