No

No

A Poem by Shannon

You asked if he liked you
You asked if he cared
You asked if you were pretty
Information he never shared

You asked all these things
And to each he said no
So then you asked if he would cry
If you let him go
If he would care at all,
If you simply walked away
Unfortunately you thought,
He said "no way"

And as you turned
With down turned eyes
A tear sparkling in the corner
Wondering how you believed his lies

But he took you by the arm
Whispered, please don't go
And with an icy stare
You reminded him that he said "no"

An odd look spread across his face
And he shook his head
"Baby, let me explain instead"

"you asked me if i liked
And to that i just said no
When really i should have told
How much i love you so
And then you asked if i cared
And this i denied
But only because i never shared
the word "care" could never define
My feelings if you walked away"

Staring into his face
Eyes blinking with understanding

"And if you left me right now
would i cry?
No, because tears no longer fall
After you die"

Good write. Emotional and telling. I particularly like the twist at the end.
