Finger painting

Finger painting

A Poem by Pooja Patel
"

A short poem about a woman who fails to recognize her true beauty on her own, and needs a man's validation in order to feel worthy.

"

She rests her preoccupied mind

late evenings

in the arms of a man she hardly knows.

He translates the curve of her body

like a trained linguist,

tracing his cigarette stained fingers

across the delicacy of her spine,

as if to play connect the dot.

Gently he sketches a hollow picture.

She lays helpless,

wondering just what he has created,

secretly hoping it’s a work of art;

fingers like brazen flames across her tainted canvas.

Resting her mind in the arms of a man she hardly knows; amazing imagery. Also I like how you give a short description of the poem's meaning under the title; it's very helpful.

lua
overall, a raw depiction of a woman's desire to find significance and recognition from a man, a delusion many fall into - well represented
