The Sound of SilenceA Poem by Pooja PatelA poem personifying moments of silence.Be still, hear it, like the breath of the universe. Don’t fear it, feel it; It’s the space between the words, when time stands at a halt. It’s half a second before everything changes. When your world comes crashing down and the rest of the world keeps spinning, it speaks. It’s a still room, a chaotic mind. When you’re waiting for someone to love you back. It’s the calm before the storm, when tears speak what the lips cannot fathom to say. The interval between a heartfelt cry and a good laugh. Seconds before your first breath, your last breath, a sigh of relief. It’s nothing and everything all at once. When your hands grasp your teacup and you look up at me, it undresses itself. It’s the moments in between my heartbeats I always think of you then. © 2017 Pooja Patel |
