Shades of silence

Don't ever dare try listening to my silence, its decibels may deem you deaf.

To some, my silence can be arrogance,
they won't look back at times I reached them with gifts of smiles.

To some, my stillness can be cowardice,
they won't know the pains that knocked me down after showing too much courage.

Some would deem my silence to be indifference,
they will forget the times I knocked on their hearts wishing for their faces to greet me as a beloved one.

But none would heed the wait my silence sobs of,
for my crude words have deemed it mute to even be heard by any.

The wait I might be a fool to put up with, for this pricking reality contains no anomaly.

Strange how we are prone to judgements from those who would never know what it's like to stand in our place.

Wrote this a long while ago.

We should not accept judgements from anyone, even if they don't know our circumstance....but if they do, then certainly it is uncouth to do so... each of us is unique with a heart and a soul, that lies beneath the crust... and doesn't always show.... but that is what matters... no one but us really knows our pain.

The silence is not silent, dear wonderful poetess P. V. Silence speaks volumes and tells us so much. As you so poetically point out in your superbly penned and expressed words, the silence of others can mean very different things, depending on which one the silence is coming from. The only advice I can give you is to say, that when they come back one day and knock on the beautiful door of your heart, do not answer their knock, do NOT open the door of your heart to them, that would be like giving them a loaded gun and saying "You missed the first time! Take another shot!" Let them go their way and bless them, then get on with your life as if they never existed. That is what life has taught me, dear P. V. Your heart is young, warm and tender and open to all, but such people do not deserve your kindness, no more than you deserve their silence. Getting on with life as if they never existed is indeed the justice we can do for ourselves and to them too, sometimes calling to turn or responding to them is the worst choice after all. Some naturally quiet while others boisterous, loud, preferring the sound of their own voice to others, though my reckoning is that it's oft the case those that say alot and some more again, when analysed retrospectively, most of it mere verbiage, by contrast, those that say the least or indeed nothing at all convey a strong and/or important message, just gotta be considered when judging accordingly!!

Silence can mean various things to various people, it is multifaceted and a potent force. I hate it when silence is misunderstood as arrogance. Sometimes, it is all we need to shut the loudest voices.
