We've always been folded letters,
written by their affection
forgetful of their words.
Maybe that's why they inscribed it all on our skin,
with intentions of sharing pleasure, but now their scars hurt.
They sealed their love,
the way it's bound to paper cut
the fingers trying to pry us
to find these words, and where we hurt.
Maybe that's why we scar those who come to try to love us,
to reinstate those words, and write over them.
We still are folded letters, aren't we?
We wish to push ourselves out
from these envelopes growing on us.
We are letters wishing to be read,
to be seen this hurt and embraced
and treasured in pages of those journals of the heart whose pain coincides with ours.
We are letters, folded in our constraints,
ardently wishing to be salvaged from hands daring enough to brace paper cuts.
"treasured in pages of those journals of the heart whose pain coincides with ours."
Such a memorable line, Muskaan. A fond wish to be treasured and loved by an equally sensitive heart. We all want to be read, understood and appreciated.
Your analogy of letters is brilliant and we could be so likened to them. We're written, forgotten, erased. Our substance gets cut. And in turn we too may cut.
And yet we never stop hoping that someone may come along and dare to salvage us and embrace us,cuts and all.
An emotionally powerful, moving and compelling poem.

I'm so very glad to hear this! Much love, my friend ❤️
Wow! A sublime allegorical write in this amazingly penned poem, dear P. V. The concept of being a letter within an envelope is mind blowing! This is truly an inspired poem! I love how you explore all of the things which become us as letters, how we long to be opened, read correctly, held closely and treasured eternally by someone who understands and whose heart has experienced similar to what our heart has experienced because only then can they understand fully for us. A very in depth write, dear P. V. Insightful and powerful inking! Thank you for sharing, dear poetess. Amazing write...

Something about being closed and reserved reminds me of a letter enclosed in an envelope hence the idea, I loved how my feelings flowed with it. I'm so grateful for such a sweet and detailed review Marie! This means a lot ❤️
This is a very beautiful yet powerful poem.
Reminded me of something I wrote years ago, but never posted.
"We are letters wishing to be read,

Letters are a perfect comparison to humans (poets),.
This poem deeply expressed the desire to be understood, seen, and loved despite their scars and hurt.
Something that many of us really need in life at times....
I loved the rhythm, quite a lyrical quality with a consistent syllabic pattern and smooth flow.
GREATLY penned.

I'm an ardent lover hidden within the deep confines of my maturity, a lover of poetry and expressing deep meanings in the most mundane observations.
