Tortured

Tortured

A Poem by James Connelly

"
My dreams torture me at night.
My life tortures me in the day.
A life that never happened haunts me at every turn, and the questions I ask myself about 'what could have been' make me loose focus on reality.

How long will it take for my heart to feel light again? For it to be a dancing feather in my chest, rather than a ball of lead. Who will help me lift the weight of the things past and throw them behind me? Someone I know, or someone to come?

Why cant the world be open and honest, telling me the answers to the questions that I occupy my mind with all day long? Rather, It hides behind its curtain of lies and secrets, watching me suffer and wait in suspense for the next mystery to finally be revealed. Though, the answer will come too late.
It always does.
