New Fire

New Fire

A Poem by James Connelly
"

Fall 2015

"
My love for the last one is gone, though, at first it burned as though it would never go out.

My young heart had yet to find a place to rest, to find someone to share its regrets with, its dreams.

But I have found a new fire that flickers and sways with my troubles in life, like it understands.

It shows me that the wind doesn't put you out, but instead, changes you, morphs you, makes you dance.

It burns hot. Reds and oranges lighting up the room; flames like hair waving in the breeze.

It laughs with me at the world, and makes me feel at ease; I can finally breathe in this hurricane.

It also shows me that I am not alone, and that there is always a way to shine light into a shadow.

Though the clouds bring rain, and the wind blasts my face, I will not go out, because my flame is great.

Though the earth shakes, and there is darkness all around me, she helps me to burn my brightest.

Very nice poetry. Although I feel you are searching for a darkness when you use the word "hurricane." However I don't feel that's the case. This poem is more like working through life's problems rather than having them take us over. Otherwise very nice format and sentence structure.
