My Future

you've spent your whole life by my side

and yet you have no idea how i feel inside

whether your vision of my future is for my good or yours

it's not the kind of future i dream to have in store

don't you see my heart linger when i look at certain things?

or notice my face lighting up as i drown my heart in passion?

or maybe i've just become so good at hiding it and lying

that not even those closest to me can see whether inside im living or dying

i know you by now, i know what you want me to be

i can predict your disapproval of the things i wish to achieve

i'm afraid of showing you my greatest joys

i keep it where it cannot be destroyed

i sit and wait every single day

for the perfect moment or words to say

i want to show you my very best

i want to pass the ultimate test

but somehow those moments never seem to appear

for the more i improve, the more i love and the more i have to fear

but time is running, my life is taking its course

and my future seems less like mine and more like yours

i cannot live two lives at once

and still have a balanced life that i love

i dont have the time and energy

to fulfill two different destinies

i know that you'd never completely understand

but can you please just take my hand

and try to see through the doors of my soul

the dream life i wish to see unfold
