Paper Bully

Paper Bully

A Poem by thenakedverse

The blank sheet of paper taunts me

Like the bully he is,

Gloating in his nakedness and

Mocking my attempts to confront him.

He raises a single eyebrow,

Daring me to pierce his skin with lead.

But I know how this will end.

I’ll hold my tongue as he claims another victory.

He’ll leave the scene unscathed

And I’ll look away in shame,

Only later imagining all the things I could’ve said.

I’ll sharpen every pencil

Thinking next time will be different.

I’ll practice all my puns and witty metaphors,

Pretending to build up some nerve,

All the while wishing Mom hadn’t taught me that

To take the high road is to walk away.

Writers block couldn't be explained more beautifully than this piece right here..
The irony of writing such a creative expressive poem about not being able to be creative, to think or to act out thought on paper. One of my favorites on this site. Great job.

good work. i feel the EXACT same way and in fact just wrote a poem about it...your is better. i just went straight to the point, but you used metaphors and created a feeling that i can truly feel and understand.
great job!

SO COOL! I love the metaphor of the paper as a bully. This is neat. With that said, "daring me to pierce his skin with lead" I feel like "with lead" is not necessary. It's already said without having said it. "Daring me to pierce his skin" already implies a pen or pencil. Great job though I liked this.

Don't know about this one. Looks like you have been busy.

So so so true. I have been here so many times, or when I have started something and then when I get half way done I just don't know what to do with it:( Knowing there has to be a great way to start or end something, yet nothing comes up.

Very good poem, it is just to true:) Great job

i wonder how many poems i have walked away from--

avoiding the confrontation because it was just too frustrating.
