The day you choose to veer Is when the woods will beckon you - Calling with its intrigue, A seduction into wander. It sings a song of pleasure -
The siren's tempting melody. It has been, in patience, waiting Designing every path to look of purpose. It will whisper pleasantries And flattery Until the treetops hide the moon. And soon, reminding darkness comes to mock you. And the stripping bark will coon its consequence - Forest never was a host to mercy. You frenzy for direction but the gourd is fast asleep. On which side is the moss supposed to grow? Those practiced in deception only know - That some will rest to wayward stroll And some will claim defeat - But he is never lost who builds a house beneath his feet.
I love this. I didn't get the big picture until the very end. This is a poem about wanderlust, is it not? I was a dullard on a wonderful walk through brilliantly painted woods until I reached those last two lines. They hit like a hammer and POW, the message crystallized. I only wonder how that last line might ring if "home" stood in place of "house". Beyond that, oh poetess, I always tell people that happiness is not a destination, but a place inside of you. You have illustrated this so well. I am agog.

I have been many times into the wood and wandered many paths and trails. I always feel at home there. I still love to hike and fish and carve my own walking sticks. But to truly experience the forest is to get off the beaten path and go exploring. It can be dangerous but what reward is not laced with a bit of peril? This was lovely.
"It will whisper pleasantries
And flattery
Until the treetops hide the moon."
This is a great a poem and those lines are brilliant. It's easy to get lost in a forest and once you're lost and you lose your cool its easy to get even more lost and finding your way back isn't easy...but it is possible.
I read everybody`s reviews and finally
your summary. Very nice, I was beginning
to suspect there was a significance in there
and you pointed it out . What a relief.
I tease----I really like your poetry. You are an
intelligent and creative force to deal with.
Hopefully I have not made you my enemy.

This is brilliant in it's absence of particular topic yet says so much. I related it to the struggles my son is having right now with drug addiction, not sure where you were going exactly with it. After reading this, you should understand my mind then, so.....:)
