The day you choose to veer Is when the woods will beckon you - Calling with its intrigue, A seduction into wander. It sings a song of pleasure -
The siren's tempting melody. It has been, in patience, waiting Designing every path to look of purpose. It will whisper pleasantries And flattery Until the treetops hide the moon. And soon, reminding darkness comes to mock you. And the stripping bark will coon its consequence - Forest never was a host to mercy. You frenzy for direction but the gourd is fast asleep. On which side is the moss supposed to grow? Those practiced in deception only know - That some will rest to wayward stroll And some will claim defeat - But he is never lost who builds a house beneath his feet.
I love this. I didn't get the big picture until the very end. This is a poem about wanderlust, is it not? I was a dullard on a wonderful walk through brilliantly painted woods until I reached those last two lines. They hit like a hammer and POW, the message crystallized. I only wonder how that last line might ring if "home" stood in place of "house". Beyond that, oh poetess, I always tell people that happiness is not a destination, but a place inside of you. You have illustrated this so well. I am agog.

"designing every path,"
yup. that's it.
forests our strange places, very fascinating.
I think the more we evolve as a species, the more alien we become to these beautiful places on earth.

I too have heeded the call of the forest, and walked her paths as she welcomed me in and comforted me with answers to life I could never find anywhere else. It truly is a beautiful thing

Calling with its intrigue,
A seduction into wander.
I have been left breathless by this opening verse. It reaches to me and tugs me into its domain. I could hear the brances swaying in the wind as I wandered through your beautiful poem, down that long pathway that leads us to the ultimate reality...life is ours to do with as we please, but planning is a virtue. Very nicely done.

I always dreamt of howling forests when I was a little girl. In those days, those dreams woke me up in the middle of the night. Your poem is like one of those dreams. I always see forest as mysterious and wicked even to this day. A remote world within a world. Foreboding. Ominous. I like the vivid imagery of this write. Like I saw my own feet walking into that pathless place.
This was a very creative piece... I loved your take and the imagery you provided of the sometimes 'mysterious' woods. I occasionally enjoy a stroll through the forest as well, taking in nature, its beauty and the peacefulness that just surrounds me as I walk. Thank you for sharing this... I thoroughly enjoyed it.
