Wise Fools

Wise Fools

A Poem by Marni A. K.
"

Abecedary poem for my poetry class. 1st assignment.

"

Alone.

By myself. Un-

Comfortable. I

Don’t know what to do.

Even though others of us

Feel the same loneliness, no one wants to

Give in to this seeming

Helplessness. No one will

Initiate any interaction. We

Just sit in our rooms searching for ways to

Kill time.

Lonely. Longing for someone to knock on

My door,

Note my existence, and

Open the gate of this self-made

Prison. We hide our anxiety so no one will

Question us, our feelings, and

Reach conclusions. It’s just the

Start of the year.

Things will get better for

Us. But the

Very thought of having to

Wait and take on this

(E)xcruciating endeavor is scary. In the end, it will

Yield our release from our prisons into a

Zone of happiness.
