Tuesday in September

A Poem by Marni A. K.
"

My experience on September 11, 2001.

"

In history there are things we will always remember,
And we’ll never forget that Tuesday in September.

I remember going to school on that beautiful day,
The first real day of school, for me, 6th grade.
First was B block, which was science for me,
Then A block English, followed by assembly.

In history there are things we will always remember,
And we’ll never forget that Tuesday in September.

We were halfway through English when we heard over the P.A.
To go to the gym for an assembly right away.
Not many of us thought about what caused the rush,
But as we left, we descended into a hush.

In history there are things we will always remember,
And we’ll never forget that Tuesday in September.

Once all had arrived and taken their seats,
Our headmaster stood at the podium to speak.
I had never seen him look so serious before,
With a countenance of sheer horror.

In history there are things we will always remember,
And we’ll never forget that Tuesday in September.

He said that our country was under attack,
Which caused us all to be taken aback.
Two planes hit the World Trade Center in NYC,
Another hit the Pentagon just outside of D.C.

In history there are things we will always remember,
And we’ll never forget that Tuesday in September.

Most were scared and shocked and shocked and started to cry,
While some believed that it was all a big lie.
Considering that most of us live next to D.C.
All we thought about was our families.

In history there are things we will always remember,
And we’ll never forget that Tuesday in September.

We walked back to South Hall and turned on the TVs
To reveal the images of this tragedy.
As classes went on as best that they could,
Parents picked up their children, like most knew they would.

In history there are things we will always remember,
And we’ll never forget that Tuesday in September.

It was the start of C block when my mom picked me up,
Which seemed kind of pointless since school was almost done.
When we got home I lied down and watched the news
And wondered how any of this could be true.

In history there are things we will always remember,
And we’ll never forget that Tuesday in September.

Tears streamed down my face, blurring my eyes,
Hearing the horrors that had unfolded in America’s skies.
Another plane in Shanksville, PA
Made me wonder if there’d ever be an end to this day.

In history there are things we will always remember,
And we’ll never forget that Tuesday in September.

The tears grow into uncontrollable screaming,
For I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
After almost two hours of standing proud,
The twin towers came tumbling down.

In history there are things we will always remember,
And we’ll never forget that Tuesday in September.

I thought that the worst was finally done,
When in truth the worst had yet to come.
I was in my mom’s room while she was on the phone,
Because I didn’t feel like I could be alone.

In history there are things we will always remember,
And we’ll never forget that Tuesday in September.

As my mom was on the phone, she turned to me and said
“Jeffrey and Jason’s father is dead.”
Though I didn’t know him, I began bawling,
And ran to my room to avoid the news of others calling.

In history there are things we will always remember,
And we’ll never forget that Tuesday in September.

He was supposed to fly out the next day,
To a meeting he was having in L.A.
He found an earlier flight: flight 77
He had unknowingly bought a one-way ticket to Heaven.

In history there are things we will always remember,
And we’ll never forget that Tuesday in September.

They may have caused the towers to fall,
But as for America, we will always stand tall.

"tuesday in september"
we will all remember that day, where we were, what happened to us during the course of that day, the imagery in our minds, flashbacks we will all have forever.
all the babies who were left without fathers, the pregnant mothers who are now alone,
Much as the past vetrans, experienced. September 11th will mean something for everyone, the loss , the devastataion, the reality check of our nations security.
It was like the world was forced a open it's eyes.
