VetiverA Poem by Andrea GreeneA poem I wrote about my grandmother in 7th grade. I was thinking of her. This may be a repost from an old account, but I don't remember. The bottle of Vetiver that seemed to last your whole life That danced on the breeze when we walked through the park, down a new path Swept by as you served a laughing family matzo and champagne Curled across the room when I would sit by the fire, where I knew you were watching Mingled with the rain as we huddled under an umbrella in a Boston summer storm Watched with you when I rode my bike up a hill for the first time Dove and spun as you sang a forgotten song, stirred farfalle and danced Fluttered in the heat of July as you laughed at the fallen frosting on the lawn Floated around the vinaigrette shop, lost in seas of strawberry, walnut and picul Glided on bubbles that we blew in the front yard Hovered in the birth of spring as I searched for Easter eggs Stayed in the chill of December as we watched snow fall through the frosted windows Wandered by as you taught me how to find sea glass And wrapped around me when you smiled, as I showed you my first find A small, light blue stone that was dusty and old and clutched in my right hand as I stared At the bottle of Vetiver that lasted my whole life I let the years fall over me in a lemongrass mist And I realize that this bottle in my grasp Is the closest I will ever be to holding your hand Again © 2018 Andrea GreeneReviews
