Thank YouA Poem by Andrea GreeneI'm the luckiest person on Earth, anybody who disagrees can meet me in the pit for a poetry battle and the below poem may sound like it's being uttered by an ostrich but for his sake I will SCHOOL YOU
Since it goes so often unsaid,
Replaced by leaning my head on your chest and fighting sleep, Or quick kisses in the wings, Thank you. I guess it's this moment's I love you, With the same breath-catching ineffable sincerity, Thank you, love, for everything you've done. Thank you for being both aware and still determined, Even when it's really, really hard to do so Thank you for letting me try to help you, fruitlessly or no. Thank you for admitting that not everything is always going to be okay. Thank you for just being there when the world feels like it's crumbling Because you're there, close to me, and it's like the world rebuilds itself Oh, I don't know Thank you for being brave enough to continue to try and give 110% And as cheesy and coach-giving-a-pep-talk-esque as that may sound I mean it I mean it all Thank you for still, in spite of it all, Being the slightly crazy, Politics-debating, Edelweiss/Disney/Broadway/Barbershop Quartet-singing, Strong, selfless, humble, and careful person That I fell in love with And still do And will For evermore. Oh, good God, that was schmaltzy, I can't end it like that. Well.
Thank you. © 2018 Andrea GreeneAuthor's Note
