RememberA Poem by Thelostgirl22For my nan and grandadI remember your smell I remember bird playing with his bell I remember the big snake teddy I remember eating spaghetti I remember you watching horse races I will never forget your faces Nan was taken far too soon It was devastating that afternoon You thought we would leave you But you were now our family too We were given a few more years Before the cancer appears Sick, tired and weak you still made us potatoes and chicken I hated to see you in that position You fought a good fight But you went away that night Your funeral was the way you wanted Little fuss, you didn't want to make it a big deal It never felt real Later I found out that you were a hero In the navy you saved a man You were given the highest honour Yet you never told anyone You didn't want any praise any fuss That is what a true hero does Gone but never forgotten Rest in peace Nan and Grandad © 2021 Thelostgirl22 |
