Sixteen

Sixteen

A Poem by Katherine M.
"

A poem I wrote for school

"

It’s hard to say what I miss the most,

But the closest thing I can think of is what never was.

Music blaring, giddy looks,

Knowing your decision is stupid and making it anyways.

Crying of laughter, ice cream in every flavor,

Riding bikes at sunset.

Yelling in the hallways, trying on sunglasses,

Going to Yogurtland after dance class.

Popcorn, beach, movies, pools,

Shivering, fears, sweating, tears.

Everything that 16 should be.

It ended up being a blue mask.

Isolation.

Online school.

Another mask.

No one to talk to.

Sadness.

Glitching screens.

A pile of blue masks.

I would say I want to be 16 again but I never was.

it is a shame that this is the legacy we will have left behind to our children because we were to selfish to think of anyone else but our own individual self in ignorant pride. Other smaller nations have been able to move on with some semblance of normality except us in the states. Shame on us for doing this to our children. Thank you for sharing this sad but truthful poem.

About
I have a cat named after a type of tea and I think that says quite a bit about me already. Not quite an author, but I would certainly like to be more..
