Ch. 34 Cross My Heart, Don't Hope To DieA Chapter by theladygraceling
Johnny comes in
ten minutes later and sits down with me on the couch. He tells me Miles is across the street, grabbing a coffee, and he's coming in a few minutes. Normally, that's my cue to leave. But Johnny asks me to wait. Then he looks at me, a little worried, and asks where Will is. I tell him that he left, but not what else happened. He waits a little longer then asks, "Did you have fun?" I sigh and give him my best annoyed-little-sister look. "You sound like Mom." That makes him roll his eyes. I turn off the TV, because it's serious time now, and face him. "Jonathan," I say, to let him know I'm serious. "If I go to this party--" He interrupts me because he already knows what I want to say. "I won't drink," he says. "Not a drop." "Promise?" He grins. "Cross my heart, hope to die." It's quite a poor choice of words.
