Ch. 28 Promises

Ch. 28 Promises

A Chapter by theladygraceling

"You don't understand,"
I tell him.

"I want to,"
he replies.

I shake my head.
"It's not that easy,"
I say.

"I'll try,"
he insists.
"Then I'll let it go,
promise."

He grins at me
so hopefully.
When I don't answer,
he apologizes again.

This is Johnny right here.
Worrying,
apologizing,
unyielding,
wanting only to help.

This is my brother.

"I'll go."

He is confused for a second.
Then he realizes.
"No," he says.
"It's okay.
I talked to Miles.
I'm not going."

I shake my head again.
"I'll go."

He's silent.
Then he smiles.
"I'll make it up to you,"
he promises.

I don't reply.
I don't return his smile.

I walk out the door.

Third Stanza (Or thing-that-looks-like-a-paragraph) second line "It's no(t) that easy." Also the fifth stanza, third line, I can't tell if there's another apostrophe next to don't, but you should check that out.
