Ch. 19 Heaven's Lights

It's too hard

for me to follow

what's happening in the game,

so I stare blankly

at the screen,

commenting now and then

to make it seem like

I'm actually paying attention.

I'm not though,

until I see

a big helicopter

fly onto the screen,

its front bright with some sort of light.

I've seen helicopters before.

That isn't what frightens me.

It's the lights on the helicopter

that make me scream.

They're bright white,

almost blinding.

I stare at them,

unsure suddenly

of where I am.

First,

they're helicopter lights

but suddenly I flash back

to that night,

in my car,

with bright, white headlights

coming towards me.

I scream.

I cover my eyes.

I hear helicopter blades.

WHISH! WHISH! WHISH!

I hear Will

and Johnny.

"Riley! Riley! Riley!"

But I 'm stuck

deep in a memory

and I can't escape.

I saw the lights

growing brighter and brighter.

For a minute

I was confused.

I didn't know where I was.

My whole body hurt.

I didn't know what was happening.

I thought

that maybe they weren't headlights

anymore.

I saw

round lights

that looked like

halos.

I wondered

is this heaven?

I woke

and it wasn't.
