Chapter ThreeA Chapter by Ashe Conten
The sun shone brightly through the foyer window, waking me from a short, disrupted, sleep. I stood from my uncomfortable position on the floor and groaned. Maybe I had gotten an hour of sleep, probably closer to 30 minutes.
After using the bathroom I noticed how quiet it was. Mom and Dad must still be asleep. I attempted to enter my own bedroom, strangely the door was locked. I looked under the bathroom sink, but my extra key was missing. As I stood up, I saw what I initially assumed was a delusion. My sister stood in front of me, her jaw wide open. Neither of us said a word until she whispered, "You're alive." I stood silently for a while. “Wh- what do you mean?” I finally asked her. “Of course I’m alive- I never died,” I paused and looked at her confused, scared eyes, “You did,” I said, so quiet it was almost a whisper. “I didn’t die.” For another moment she was confused. Then, I could see everything come together in her mind just by the sparkle in her eye. “What is it?” I asked, eager for answers. Audrey didn’t speak, only turned around and walked back to her room. A second later she brought back her phone, then held up for me to see. I almost fell backward as I saw the photo on her screen. A photo… ...Of me laying on the floor, surrounded by empty bottles of pills. © 2017 Ashe ContenAuthor's Note
