To queue and wait for childhood memories Play grounds and parks. Now just buried treasure, for future archaeologists to uncover As the grown ups played, Ring-a-ring-a-roses, a protective circle from those who do not play but prey The haunted years as swings swung so lonely Haunted by the gaze of captive children, peeking with longing through curtains nailed shut We can remember our innocence, my father said, sitting us down upon the carpet After the daisies had been gathered
