No Worth

No Worth

A Poem by Mark Anthony Games (Human Voice)

All the colours have turned to black
I remember so fondly the times when they were grey
Now I only have the scars and the bruises
I no longer have your touch

I would suffer them all again, every blow
Just to have someone near, to be touched
The slam of the door blew out the candles
Now nothing so dark can reflect or be seen

Yet I cannot let death be another failure
So I come to you God and religion
I pass my blame and responsibility
So I can be a victim still, even in death

Sweet calm, wash away this thick sludge
The remenants of a soul now congealed and rotted inside
This intense hatred I hold for the world, its turned to face me
Sweet serenity let me drift away in peace

It was never the darkness that tortured and twisted my soul
It was the light it poured on love, but that I could not touch
All the colours have turned to black
I remember so fondly the times when they we grey

This brought to mind somebody dealing with a terminal illness...and dealing with it badly. Perhaps just feeling off, the colors were grey, and then having that diagnosis, the colors turn to black. And the depression and denial that settle in, in the wake of the diagnosis; seeking a God on whom to blame the illness...I don't know, I may be completely mistaken, but that's what this piece says to me.

You have a very strong voice.

I love this ... this, to me, is awakening at the onset of final sleep. How bitterly ironic. I like the imagry of grey being what once passed for color ... the bookending of the two verses. This poem was chiseled with care and attention to detail.

everything was described as something so visually, which i found both ironic and creative, describing depression as a coloor, but one that no one likes to see.

You are welcome.
An obviously dark poem dealing with depression. I really liked the line "find a god or religion to pass my responsibility". I felt it was a profound statement of what we do as humans... god will take care of it, its in his hands, etc. When really its up to us to pull ourselves out of the darkness and into the light. I understand and relate to the sadness, feelings of despair in this poem. Well done

Thank you, yes indeed having a god in the sky means we can duck out of the responsibility. In truth .. read more
