Birth and Death

Birth and Death

A Poem by Mark Anthony Games (Human Voice)
"

A Poem designed to be read top to bottom, or bottom to top. First poem I have ever actually 'designed'

"

Today I was told I had a terminal illness
I was told death would come soon

I was told I had very little time

I was advised to make the best of what I had

I was warned things would develop despite my efforts
I was assured though that I can influence on the outcome

I was recommended to keep a clear mind and act from my heart
They pleaded to make sure I did not hold back on my desires

So I was born into the physical world full of hope
I quickly discovered what society expects

My path and designs got lost in the confusion of conformity
I was told an open mind and dreams will not pay the rent

I wondered if I had been born to hell instead of life
Welcome to real life, I was told

A moment of clarity can be a devastating thing. Everyone is born with a terminal illness; it's call 'life.' Some have a few more ticks of the clock, some less. Some say that's it what we do with them that counts most but this seems a self-serving contemplation since only the self can take up a sequester of mind and ponder the meaning, and perhaps 'value', of its existence. I like the structure and enjoyed reading it in both directions... at the same time, alternately. That was quite illuminating! :o)
