INT. BOARDING HOUSE BEDROOM – NIGHT

Cardboard boxes plague the room. A young, underfed woman, CHENOA packs up her last possession left, a beaten laptop computer, into the last of the boxes. She exhales and lies back onto her stripped bed. The bed springs creak. Her weary presence suggests a long, straining journey ahead. She places the crook of her right arm over her eyes, protecting it from the harsh, orange light of the room.

CHENOA

(recites poetry)

“The Archaic
Voice disrupting like a mirage
A bad image
Save stoic

Ethereal
Despondent…”

(trails off)

What else?

CHENOA abruptly jumps off the bed and stubs her toe on a disheveled dresser that is pushed against the bedroom door. She inhales sharply. A knock at the door; CHENOA yelps.
