Devil in a Caramel

Devil in a Caramel

A Poem by Sara Henry Heistand
"

The world's a dress.

"

I’m wearing the world

a keychain spinning

                 on my finger

Making the tides float

like acid spills

Making the grown-ups flinch

in frantic heat

Are all the Big Macs on your side Collapsing

the atmosphere Tilting

the tilt of         the big pinball?

it’s better not to see you

and see how you’re getting

old

because I did know you

            you used to spin

                                onmyfinger

            and

            believe me

that person died

and rose hell

                        When he knew the devil

in the caramel.

This is such an intriguing poem! All the little allusions create very interesting imagery-- "Big Macs", "pinball", etc. The formatting of text is also interesting.

This poem makes me think...and I always like that!
