Chapter 3

   Finally, the entire hallway had been cleared and Yuki stood there, leaning precariously to her left so as not to fall over. Shinji found her once he released Experiment #1 from her room. Now, fifteen people stood in the hallways, looking to Yuki who leaned on Shinji's shoulder, breathing heavily.

   "Are you alright?" he asked, heaving her to a standing position next to him. "You don't look so good."

   She smiled weakly, the pounding in her head noticeably audible in her own ears. "Don't worry I'll be fine, ok? Just tell everyone to stand back. Put up a shield and we can get out of here alive, alright?"

   He nodded, backing up and addressing the others while she eyed the wall like an evil foe she needed more than anything to get rid of.

   I wonder... she sighed, standing up straight and raising her left palm up facing the wall. ...where are the friends I left behind in the outside world?

   She smiled expectantly, relishing the thought of looking for them once she got out.

   With a loud rumble, electricity built in her hand and became a swirling roll of thunder that seemed ready to kill her before she could let go. At the last feasible second, when it was strongest, she whipped it at the wall like a left handed throw for a baseball and it crashed louder and much more violently than she expected. Pieces of concrete and metal flew everywhere. A shield a brilliant shade of yellow erected itself around her and a chunk of debris bounced off. She looked behind her once the wall was open and both shields came down.

   She could finally give the order.

   "EVERYONE," she yelled, pointing to the dark night in front of her. "RUN TO THE OUTSIDE!"

   Yuki saw them all smile at the same time, and run for the hole in the wall, screaming and cheering like children. She was picked up onto the shoulders of Shinji and Yumi instantly.

   "Everyone means you too, Yuki," Yumi exclaimed, smiling wildly. "Now let's get out of here!"

   "Of course," she said, looking behind them. Right on cue, Naru showed up out of the rubble. "and here she comes."

   She made a mad dash for the hole and in no time guards were right behind her.

   "Help me out guys," Yuki said, getting off of their shoulders and holding up both of her palms. "Shield her, Shinji. Yumi, help me blast them out of the way."

   A bright yellow shield followed Naru all the way down the hallway and five guards were sent sprawling right back the way they came. The others with their quick instincts had moved out of the way and were barreling down the hallway after Naru.

   These guys never know when to quit do they? Yuki thought, smiling. This should be fun.

   A quick blast of electricity shot from the center of both her palms and three more guards were flung backwards, landing on their heads about as hard as she had earlier.

   Hope that teaches you mongrels a lesson.

   Naru ran right into Yuki's chest, panting. Yuki helped her stand up and laughed when she realized Naru was scared senseless.

   "Come on, then!" she said, turning to Shinji and Yumi. "Let's get out of here!"

   The other experiments stood waiting for them a few yards in front of them. As fast as they could they ran like they'd never run before.

   We're practically home free...finally.
