Conceited Thinking

Conceited Thinking

A Poem by Solis-Lopez
"

it's something of a rant that i thought of while in the car a while ago

"

I look at the people I talk to

What are they to me?

Some are close,

some are my life to me,

others are just there because they beg me to be.

When you really stop and think about it though,

what are your friends really there for?

This may be conceited thinking but,

   aren't they usually there-sometimes-to

make you look better than them?

I honestly think that it is conceited thinking

especially me who has needed people to rant on

for the past couple of months since the year began.

SO!! Here's what I think:

I think there are people who are just genuinely attracted to you

and want your company because it makes them comfortable.

Then there are those who want your company because it makes them

look higher and mightier than the rest of the world,

   especially you.

Maybe friends are real

but then again maybe they're just bored people who want to be there.

I definitely agree, and can relate to this. (: Lately I've been thinking about my relationships with people as well, and just pondering over who I'll /really/ miss when I move away for college. This list was shockingly short. XD There really are some people that you just hang out with because they're there. And others that you truely enjoy being around! Great job turning this rant into something of a poem. XD :)!

I agree and I know why you wanted me to read it. You gotta good for just a rant. It is upsetting how people can live like this still just to feel content. I fall into the category, damn. Very good point.

id have to say i disagree. there are friends who want to be there for you and go out of their way to put you up above them before themselves. regardless, its a very good poem.

I have a list of friends who have come and gone as long as gift requests for Santa Clause. With the coming and going of people in my life, I have seen many flavors of friends and agree with you to some degree. Some only want to get a piece of what you've got. Others have ulterior motives that are usually very selfish, maybe to harm with intent. These were friends in diguise. I think that you really find out who your true friends are when trouble finds you . You look around after a wreck in your life and when the dust settles ...your true friends will remain by your side. I can count on one hand with fingers left over my true friends . How about you ?
Your poem seems to provoke thought in your reader, be it a rant or a rhyme . None the less it sparks a flame that ,I hope, creates much feedback from your readers.

Actually, I think you've nailed it. Why people choose to become a friend of someone is often one of those two reasons. Ether they are there because they just want to be, Or they are their because you have something they don't, but by hanging around you, they think they will get some of the sunshine for it.
I don't think it has to do with boredom though. Many friends get bored, but they still are close to eachother for honest reasons.

My opinion is; A friend is someone who is there because they enjoy being a friend to you.
