Not Your Dream (Redone)A Poem by A. J. KingsleyOne of my older poems rewritten in the style of a Shakespearean sonnetI once believed your gaze was a subject of pride A bold stanza writ’ on your love, and my worth Yet here I stand, a fool, erroneous thought For I was cursed to belong to you at birth
A fruitless journey, trying to win your affections When impossible was all you asked of me Crushing my soul through your so-called love Ten-fold tasks and tear stains all that’s left to see
Don’t you tire of standing in my grave, Of holding the knife that pierces my heart? I wanted to stay, to hold you a little longer but with each of your blows I’ve fallen apart
I’m not your dream, I never was
I’m better now, and your lost cause
