Your Best

Your Best

A Poem by A. J. Kingsley
"

alternatively titled "Screw off dad" but that's not very poetic so

"
They say it takes a village to raise a child
and that makes sense because if it had just been you
I'd be ruined by now.

You filled my head with garbage
that took years to undo
but it still plays in the back of my head
like a horrible record infecting my mind
maybe it's a "do as I say, not as I do" situation.

I guess you did your best, but why couldn't you do more?
Your "best"made me feel like I wanted to die.
Your "best" said that everything I did was wrong

So forgive me if my "best" option is to leave
and then maybe I can forgive you for trying
