Sorry DaddyA Poem by Amant CacheThis poem was written a year or so ago during a time when I felt confronted, cornered, and trapped by the differences between myself and the me my family wanted me to be. It was written at a time when Barack Obama was just Hillary's black opponent.I’m sorry Daddy that I believe in more than you ever thought could be possible…with your back turned to the change that’s inevitable… It’s hard for you to accept, I know. But there’s a revolution coming… a new world of change. Just think…oh wait- you might stroke out… what with those loose cannons about…talking of things like negroes in office, legalization, and an end to war. But Daddy, aren’t some of your friends colored? Oh, it’s different I see…well…sure. Daddy, what’s that smell? Skunk? I could have sworn I saw a joint in your hand… Oh wait, no that was years ago…or was it? Hey Daddy, tell me about the time you served? Oh I forgot… you were lucky and didn’t see action… my mistake. My mistake indeed… What’s that Daddy? You’re back’s hurting again? Must be all that pressure to fit in… It’ll do you in every time… Oh and speaking of time, I’ve gotta run…no I’m much too busy for a lecture today… Oh haven’t you heard? I’ve been liberated. I’m allowed to think for myself… and I plan to. You should try it sometime. I hear it’s quite like getting high…
