When The Moment Finally Comes

When The Moment Finally Comes

A Poem by G. Cedillo

when the moment comes, when all its attendant feelings
stretch, rise from the too-small bed of your mind,
when all your approaches and false-starts, all apologies
must snuff out their half-smoked cigarette, get in line,
find their seat: when it finally comes, the moment is gone.

because at some point interpreting stars, prayers sent
to cloud light, like weather & traffic updates, do more harm
than good; as piles of clothes pulled out closets a night before,
tried on, held up against your body to see how it looks,
the moment falls off your shoulders and down by your feet.

maybe all the calendar pages, all the white-blanks circled
and stared at were like children spinning in on a tire swing
unable to distinguish when it became more dizzy than fun;
just, without asking anyone, without letting itself be known,
as you arrive, the moment leaves the party unannounced.

Pretty deep man. I like the reference to the traffic and weather reports being useless!
