Fighting Hearts

Fighting Hearts

A Poem by Cake Box
"

Free verse.

"

I bend and I bend

And soon I’ll break.

Your rules and trends

Only raise the stakes

How am I going to live?

A organic reaction

Is all that I’ll be

Speed without traction

Driving recklessly

Do I even seem human?

You have your oak tables

Your floors, windows, walls

Divide drawers with labels

I'm Alice feeling so small

Can't you let me let go?

I rent a corner of paradise

I lease the air in my lungs

Play your games with borrowed dice

I'll give it back when I'm done

Why can't I have my own?

All I own is the constant beat

The blood running in and out

In advance and retreat

The tunnels that weave about

Through my arms

Back to where it starts

To my fighting heart
