Persephone's Meditation

Persephone's Meditation

A Poem by Jordan Bryant
"

This started out as a found villanelle, using only other poet's lines, but I liked the story that I found it in so much that I rewrote it using many of my own lines.

"

You do not have to be good

Hell is empty, all the devils are here.

This was before I understood

He was good with words,

Laces coming undone, doves lured into snares

You do not have to be good.

On a pond at the edge of the wood,

An insidious bloodhound singles out the seraphic deer

This was before I understood

That the poet is brooding

Because lust steals hours but love steals years.

You do not have to be good.

Inches from me the Bloodhound stood

Nothing visible but a hint of a sneer

He tempted from beneath his hood,

With breath of lime and peppers, I know I could

sway you, with speech and tongue, into the mood.

This was before I understood

You do not have to be good.

i like what you've done here. The repetition and then connection of This was before i've understood, you do not have to be good worked really nicely. I'm guessing you're getting straight A's in your writing courses ;)
