Persephone's MeditationA Poem by Jordan BryantThis started out as a found villanelle, using only other poet's lines, but I liked the story that I found it in so much that I rewrote it using many of my own lines. You do not have to be good Hell is empty, all the devils are here. This was before I understood He was good with words, Laces coming undone, doves lured into snares You do not have to be good. On a pond at the edge of the wood, An insidious bloodhound singles out the seraphic deer This was before I understood That the poet is brooding Because lust steals hours but love steals years. You do not have to be good. Inches from me the Bloodhound stood Nothing visible but a hint of a sneer He tempted from beneath his hood, With breath of lime and peppers, I
know I could sway you, with speech and tongue,
into the mood. This was before I understood You do not have to be good. © 2013 Jordan Bryant |
