In His Prison MindA Poem by The Lancashire RoseMy own interpretation of the thoughts of an incarcerated man.In the darkest fathoms of a midnight sky resides just a glimmer of light, and he reaches for the future. While anger chases away the pain he doubts that life will ever come again, to his heart that beats behind the bars. His liberty thrown away, along with the key to his faith, he sits inside his dark catacombs, waiting for the dulcet note to entice his fears away. He has jewels of happy memories inside his head, and he grows weary of the long dark hours until daylight explodes upon his mind once again. “Freedom," he shouts, "Freedom they reply,” yet his will is bent to the choices which he now challenges. His children cry for the love of a frozen face, his woman screams of selfish abandonment, but what of he who can’t be heard, will his plight ever change? He made a mistake a long time ago, and his gain, resulted in nothing but hurt. Now his children sit alone in a diverse world fighting for the right to be free, while their father has to wait his turn. He knows that one day the door will open, that fleeting light will shine so bright. Once again his wife shall call his name in the height of making love, and passion. His children will shout his name “Daddy” and from his shoulders they will cling recognising his love. What then has he to offer, what then can he share? His life as he knew it has been dead, along with his pride, buried. He made a mistake and paid the price, but what the consequences of false lies are left? He has his faith, a stark reality of his world. © 2013 The Lancashire Rose |
