My Religion.

My Religion.

A Poem by Madison Grace
"

In writing this I realized that I was an atheist, and had been for quite some time.

"
I don't know what I believe in
But I believe I'll know it when I see it.

No the afterlife is s**t
But how the hell am I supposed to believe this is it?
You don't know what it's like-
What it's like to die
And have your soul ascend to that white light in the sky
With those pearly gates guarded by some guy.
Some guy you've heard of but you've never seen,
And then suddenly it seems as though this is all a dream.

But hell, is that really what's going to happen?
No. I don't believe in fairy tales
I believe in what's inside myself,
And if that means I'm going to hell;
Well, I guess my freethinking is why I fell.
Because I'll tell you,
The grass is green and the sky is blue;
And you can see this and you ask why.
But if I tell you that there's some all powerful guy,
That you can't see and you can't feel;
You say, "Oh well he has to be real!"

To hell with blind faith.
Because I have and I will  make mistakes,
But I'll be better for it knowing that there's hell to pay.
While you, with your sins
That you are drowning in,
Will go on believing that you are godsent
Because all you do is repent.

I'm not rejecting religion.
I think that's all fine and dandy,
Cotton candy
For the mind-
Too afraid to look inside
For what's really there,
It's okay to be scared.

Because maybe there is a God with a son who fell,
And that son is using me to tell
You what to believe.
And that's just it!
I don't care what you believe.
It's all bullshit
That we have to live our lives
Wondering what happens when we die.

Why can't we be
Like the birds? In the trees
They fly
And are free
In the sky,

From all this worry.
Surely they aren't sorry
For what they've done.
With their ignorance they have won
The ultimate prize,
They don't have to look inside-
Their minds are empty.

Oh what lives they must lead,
Meaningless, yet completely free.

This poem was originally written to be spoken, just as well tell me what you think if it flows or if there are awkward moments. I've been working on this piece for quite some time.
