Sententious Friendship.

Sententious Friendship.

A Poem by Madison Grace
"

I wrote a thing. Here it is. Let me know what you think because there is clearly room for improvement and I am eager to improve.

"

Connecting me to you,

It is the glue

That we all use.

If we're bead,

It's the PB&J spread.

I can't just put into words what it means,

For you to be up on the phone with me until three;

Or when I know,

That if I ever needed somewhere to go

I can come to you.

It's the bond,

That has held our species together for so long.

It won't ever burn out, it's no little flame

It's a roaring beast engulfing our planet until it's just the same

As the stars.

If I could count them all for you I would-

If I could-

But I can't.

So in a way,

Those stars and love are the same;

Because they're endless.

Just like the universe

Ever expanding,

The same as the people multiplying

And spinning around on this planet til we're sick.

But I'll hold your head,

Because when you're with me in bed

I know I'm home.

There's nowhere I'd rather be,

I don't mean in this s****y city,

I mean anywhere as long as it's you and me.

But hey, it could be worse!

Because I know it hurts,

To feel alone.

I though our species has grown.

As human beings,

What are we thinking?

Sending death threats and following through.

Let's sit down me and you,

Because I know it's true.

We can all find common ground,

If we know how,

And then we can paint this town

Yellow.

Bright and sunny;

Because well maybe

If we look more like the stars we could gain some perspective.

After all everything is relative.

What's it mean to love one another

When all the earth is in a brotherhood.

It's the tether

That tugs us together:

Late night fights,

And last minute flights

Home.

To you of course,

Maybe later we can sit on my porch

Just thinking.

That's all we need to do is be together,

So I can remember

What it means to be with someone I know I can count on.

Because life is terminal,

So you better make jokes at my funeral.

Because in the end,

You are my best friend.

And nothing can change that about us.

Not even if the countless stars all fell to earth as dust.

Because love is far more sententious

Than all of the brilliant heavens.

It's cold pizza in the morning,

It's mario party and crying,

And reading next to each other,

And laughing and hiding under the covers.

It's growing old

And growing cold

Hearts;

And it's growing apart.

Because love,

It's the last sip of tea-

Bitter-

But you still don't want it to be over,

So you drink up.

Thank you! :)
This is all sweetness and hope and light, right up until you run face-first into those last two stanzas--and they hit all the harder for the heights from which we fall. Nice work!
