The Legend of the MermaidA Story by BellaThis little short story has no meaning, but just a little description of something that popped into my mind. Her long, glistening hair waved gently in the breeze. She sat atop a rock planted in the wild blue ocean. Waves crashed beneath her extended, hazel tail among the rock. Her brunette hair lay upon her chest as if there was nothing else to reveal. Her face was an angel's- long eyelashes, a pointed nose and lips painted a shade of pink. It was the body of a mermaid. Her name was like a delicate swan, grazing across the water, it was Leenabralow, Leena for short. On this very afternoon, Leena skimmed the water, her hair and tail trailing behind her. Days passed and soon days turned into weeks before she discovered the land above the water. She had been told about the mystical creatures pronounced as "humans" that didn't have a tail to swim. Leena wasn't sure that humans lived above the water, but she weave through the waves to see. Once she was ashore and lying on a rocky formation, she peered down the beach to see a figure with stems tracing toward her. It was a man, a handesome fellow, for she gazed into the depths of his glaring, brown eyes.
The man stopped in his tracks, staring at the maiden ahead only yards away. Leena was srprised to see that he was a "human". To lose the moment of eye contact, she hung her head in suprise to notice that her tail was no longer a tail but the same, strange stems the man had. A soft hazel skirt covered the tingly sensation she felt inside her new legs. Leena glanced back up at the man's face. His thin, blond hair blew in spite of the wind. He was so focused on Leena's beauty, that he was speechless- or so she thought. Only one thing could describe Leena's feeling she had, love. One long moment gazing at eachother ended when the boy spoke. "Hello... Leenabralow." Suddenly, Leena's unnoticed smile she had on faded into a dark look of hate. The man knew who she was, in fact, he was the vicious, evil sea wizard everyone despised and were frightened of. Leena was in definite show when the color of his brown eyes slowly dimmed into black irises. "No..." Leena managed to whisper uneasily. The corner of the man's mouth started to lift in an evil gesture. "Oh, yes. You must live among the humans now, never to see you kind again. You must never set foot into the ocean waters. No one will ever know that, truly, you're a mermaid. Goodbye and so long... Leena." The man vanished into the ocean dismissing Leena. She risked stepping back into the water but once she touched the waves, a sharp wall stoop before her at once. Tears streamed down her pale cheeks and onto the sand, for she will never be a mermaid again.
She lives among us now in crowds, streets, and buildings. You won't know if you see her, but you may manage to see an unforgiving, sad eye. That eye would be the once life of Leenabralow- the maiden that lives... forever. © 2008 BellaAuthor's Note
