Homage to Alcohol

1

Wrinkled wraiths of my wretched past flare up,
Summoning my spiraling resolve to the precipice.
A shadow. O no! It is real. Very much so.
A silhouette? The demons of magnanimity;
The war cry for my peaceful requiem.

2

I begin my initiation towards redemption,
Nothing too fancy, mind. A trifling amount
Of what my profound partners prefer.
Bless'd they be. The clarity is amazingly blurred.
The ice trails to white froth as the Dark Man stalks off.

3

The tirade against humanity is well received,
A tinted smile by my buck toothed companion.
Silvering my half-empty glass.
I see with blinding sight the banality of my life,
Time only justifies my Pain.

4

Towards the end of my tether, I notice;
My bottle is empty and yet, my heart full
Of intermittent bursts of despair. The floor creaks,
I jump to my feet and for the first time,
Contemplate the hue of my eyes as I face the Dark Man.

5

Embrace him, I must.
