Being a girlA Poem by ThatoneblondeWe all struggle with something everyday But a girl sometimes struggles in a completely different way the things we do so we can be our best we curl our hair with a wand and straighten our teeth with braces but all we can see is the reflection of our imperfect faces our confidence is drowning and suffering the sports are blistering our heels While our grades are bombing and test scores are low the peer pressure is growing with every second in class He said “why cant I see it? Its just an a*s!” The cat calls are getting more vulgar But at the same time I am being told I am not pretty enough And I find myself hiding in the sleeves of my sweaters I cant just go and buy shorts that I know will fit me I cant always be looking over my shoulder The shorts might be showing off too much skin Damn maybe even too much of my shoulder Now onto fitting in This is quite a huge factor in the life of a teenage girl From a very young age we are told to do things a specific way What if we don’t? We have to fit the mold of a teenage girl You need to be cute You need to try out of cheer squad You NEED to Weigh a certain weight be a certain height You need to be as girly as possible With ribbons in your hair and rosy cheeks We are held to a certain standard And if you don’t reach that standard Forget the respect EVERYONE deserves You didn’t earn it. If you complain about a man getting something You are usually called upon being either jealous or a feminist The thing you will see Is the makeup that is covering me Its hiding my imperfections The pimples that are surfacing and worry wrinkles on my forehead the dark circles under my eyes. Being a girl is easy he says it cant be that hard. © 2017 ThatoneblondeFeatured Review
