The Timeless Heart & The Logical Mind

The Timeless Heart & The Logical Mind

A Story by Ryan M. James

The heart feels.
Here again come the familiar motions, as if the very hands of the gods were sweeping through the skies, conjuring winds and beckoning the tides to rise unholy.

Ash and flames fall to the innermost parts of the soul. The ground I walk upon trembles, lightening cracks the air, tearing heaven from itself.

Sounds muffle the distant cry of my mind's desperate pleas as they argue fervently with the hearts crazed desires.

"For what?!" one mind asks of the heart "Time?".

"Always there is time!" the heart replies, "That great viewer of life, that silently endless watching eye. Time is the lens through which god might see us."

For a moment the mind stayed silent.
"Yet even the gods fade before time, as time is more than willing to show" he replied smugly.

The mind then started to think.
What of love? Surely a timeless wisdom it holds and a power it must carry.
For we have all felt the slowing of time, minutes seem as days, days as months.
In love, time moves too quick and fades too slow.
In time, love fades to quick and may heal for a lifetime.

So eternally held apart are the timeless heart and the logical mind.
Do we stay fast and march onwards through these trials, treading again on the dust of those who have fallen before.

One truth, a peaceful beauty there is in this place of chaos and questioning.
For always will we love, and the reason eternally will elude us.
To love is what makes us as the gods. And although searing flames of passion may lick at the flesh of our beings and reasoning may torment the mind, never has there been a more pure and powerful emotion than love.
