The Longhaul

The Longhaul

A Poem by thatmissouriguy

It's so hard to bite my tongue
Even though I know it's the only way
To make this thing called love work
And to convince my man to stay
I loved him from the get-go
From the very first awkward "Hi."
So why do I stay up most nights
For him to fall asleep so I can cry
I want us to work so badly
To say "I do." and take his name
But is that what he really wants
Do we really feel the same
We haven't been together long
One hundred and thirty six days to be exact
Maybe that is what we need
Just more time and to relax
One day I think he'll come around
At least I hope with all my might
That he will realize, what we have
It's strong, it's real, it's right
